Otera, in the Japanese language, means “ A temple”. In the wellness sense, is how we treat our mind, as a temple where we find harmony. 

Led by two-time award-winning pastry chef Joanna Yuen, whose prolific career in Japanese pastry and desserts span across countries and cultures, chef Yuen creates umami desserts where sweet meets savoury and brings a sense of harmony in flavour and in texture to her guests.

With a background in advertising, Yuen applies her keen eye for beauty and precision as she started her wedding cake online shop. After a stint at Landmark Mandarin Oriental’s pastry kitchen, Yuen advanced her journey at The Ocean by Olivier Bellin, NOBU and Ando, where her passion for Japanese wagashi is exemplified and winning hearts of diners, local and abroad, earning Yuen two Best Pastry Chef Awards by Tatler Dining in 2020 and 2022.

Her work has been widely featured in leading lifestyle publications such as Tatler Hong Kong, Vogue Hong Kong, South China Morning Post etc.
